The Model SG-8 is a Loss of Signal (LOS) Audio/Video ID Inserter. Typically, the SG-8 is connected to the output of a video/audio feed from a remote link. If the input video is present, then it and its associated audio are looped thru. Upon loss of the input video, the SG-8 defaults to internal SMPTE Color Bars (with optional ID) and internal 1 KHz tone. The tone can be selected to cycle on and off at 5 second intervals. This is useful to test the remote/studio link for noise on the audio. During the off cycle of the tone, the remote studio link antenna, etc. can be adjusted for minimum background noise. This has been found to be the best way to adjust the link. The loop thru audio may be either balanced or unbalanced. An ID such as WABC or REMOTE2 , etc may be factory "Burned-in" to the SG-8. The SG-8 also has 3 Black Burst outputs that may be used to genlock the remote video sources.
